Warriors Bantam Competitive Baseball

Bantam - age 14 & 15

Bantam age category listed above is broken down into 3 or 4 skill levels (depending on the age category). These levels are identified as: "AAA" (Performance), "AA" (Competitive), "A" (Community), and "A2" (Community), with the AAA level representing the highest skill level

The Warriors are a U16 competitive baseball team that is committed to developing better athletes and individuals.  Our team competes in the Baseball Alberta province wide league as well as tournaments. We play an all-star type format all season long with practices starting in March and games continuing through August.  We attract talented players from throughout Edmonton’s North east zone area who are hoping to take their game to the next level.

All competitive teams participate in spring league play that runs from the beginning of May to the end of June.  Teams participate in the North Central Alberta Baseball League, which is generally made up of other baseball organizations in the surrounding area (i.e., Spruce Grove, St. Albert, Edmonton, Ft. Saskatchewan, etc.).  Teams could extend further out to such locations as Camrose, Barrhead, Red Deer and Calgary.

Generally, Games are usually played on weekends with rainouts being played through the week for those clubs within travelling distance.  Depending on the level, Performance / Competitive / Community, travel could be local or around the province.  Tournament Play and Exhibition Tournaments are put on every year by surrounding baseball organizations. These tournaments provide a great opportunity for players and coaches alike to prepare for playoff competition. Typically, competitive teams participate in 3 to 4 tournaments per year.

Rep Costs / Fundraising:

Although player registration fees cover basic expenses such as insurance, equipment and diamond rentals, teams are required to cover their own travel and tournament costs. We are having each Head Coach prepare a "Proposed" team budget that will be presented.  This will allow parents the opportunity to determine the cost of participating in the Program.  The cost of the program is usually offset by team fundraising activities. The amount of fundraising varies per team and is very much dependent on the amount of travel required (i.e., travel out of province to Western Canada or National Championships). Teams that do not advance beyond Provincials typically budget $300 - $500 per player.

Provincial Playoffs and Championships

All teams participate in Baseball Alberta’s Provincial Playoff format. The Provincial Playoffs are different for each of the competitive levels and age groups.  Baseball Alberta is currently finalizing their Playoff and Championship format.

National and Western Canada Championships are typically held in mid to late August and are located throughout Canada. For more details on playoff rules, schedules and Championships, refer to Baseball Alberta’s Official Handbook. This and other relevant information can be found at the Baseball Alberta web site:

Coaching Certification:

The Warriors organization strongly supports and promotes the NCCP Certification Program. Current Baseball Alberta requirements are that all Rep coaches are required to possess at a minimum full NCCP Level I Certification. In addition, coaches traveling outside of Alberta (to Western Canada Championships or National Championships) must also possess Level II qualifications. The Warriors will reimburse any current Rep Coach for coaching certification courses up to and including a full Level II designation.  Application for reimbursement can be made and will be decided by the, The Warriors Board with the recommendation of the Rep Executive.  Reimbursement will be limited to the enrolment cost of the course only.  Application can be made for other costs and will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Development: We are putting a large emphasis on “Development” this year at all levels. It is the opinion of the Warriors Baseball Committee that all levels are developing whether it is developing for the next level or at midget level. We have the commitment of all coaches selected to honor and abide by these principals.

Evaluation Process:

In consultation with the Coaches, we are developing a standardized evaluation process that will be used  We understand that the process may be slightly different at the Midget level vs. the Mosquito level, but we are striving for consistency and fairness in the selection process.

Kid’s have to have “FUN”: We understand that the word “FUN” means different things to Mosquito’s than it does to Midgets and AAA players than it does to A players. But regardless of the definition at whatever level, the GAME must be “FUN” for the kid’s or it won’t be a positive experience.
