Rick's contribution to the Edmonton Warriors
Athletic Association is impossible to measure. Rick was always an avid
sports fan and a strong supporter of both the Edmonton Eskimos and Oilers.
His contribution as a coach in Edmonton started in 1963 and grew into a life
long passion coaching hockey, baseball, basketball and softball. Rick was a
true volunteer at heart and served on various community league positions,
championship events, endless fundraisers and the Ukrainian Cultural Village,
where his wife Shirley worked. Prior to his passing Rick was still active
with Warriors where he served on the Board of Directors since 1990, coach
with the Warriors Pride, Senior Ladies Fastball team, coach with the
Warriors Ladies basketball team and President of NEBA, Northeast Basketball
Association. The Candy Man lived by a simple philosophy where a friend in
sport is a friend for life. If ones life is measured by the number of people
you touch, Rick's legacy is infinite. For the 2010 season we will be wearing
this crest to honor the contribution and memory of the Candy Man.
